News » Guild Wars 2 and Windows 8

If you like me and have been interested in Microsoft's new OS, Windows 8 (to be released to shops in October 26th) then you'd be wondering if Guild Wars 2 would run on the new Windows 8. The reason one would ask if it will work in the new Windows 8 OS is because Microsoft has been locking down more parts of the OS to make it more secure against viruses and hackers and this has cause a number of programs to no longer work, such as another MMO I play which I won't name.

Now it didn't worry me much about Arena Net's games not working on Windows 8 but other programs and games I've found to have been made by lazy or bad programers which did things that do not work in Windows 8 such as placing dll files in the windows folder, saving data in the program's folder instead of the AppData and other outdated and lazy / bad programing habits.

So I'm happy to say Arena Net's Guild Wars 1 and 2 work on Windows 8 and you can make a shortcut on the Metro to load both of them from. Best of all since there has been a cut down in the resources used by Windows 8 over previous OSes (including Windows XP) Guild Wars 1 and 2 both run even better.

So don't worry Guild Wars 1 and 2 will both work in Win 8 and you'll be able to join us when Guild Wars 2 releases.
