Helping lower leveled players

Postby ApexPrecursor » Fri Jul 13, 2012 10:02 pm

So I tried to convince a friend of mine to watch me play guild wars 2 in the upcoming beta. He plays TERA, and he starts asking questions to get a feel for guild wars 2 before he watches me play.

We came to the point of what happens when a higher level guy, lets say 80, helps a new player at around level 10. I know that the level 80 guy's stats will go to a level 10's stats (or the area's recommended level) so he doesn't one hit kill mobs. But does this mean you could stay in the same spot forever and get to level 80? How does exp work for lower leveled mobs?

I read that leveling will take the same amount of time no matter what level you were. If it took an hour to get to level 10 from 9, it'll take an hour to get to level 80 from 79. Is this correct?

I confused my self when learning all about this info, so I'm not clear on what exactly happens

the curve for leveling and exp requirement isn't like other mmos. Instead of constantly going up in requirement for each level it slowly goes up after abouts level 30, nearly leveling off in requirement. You can stay at the same area and level if you wish, but it's unadvised. Most of your exp will come from personal story, heart or renown events, and dynamic events. The personal story will move you to other zones, the hearts are one time completion and the dynamic events will get repetitive depending if you stay in exactly the same area. The amount of exp you get from mobs is small enough to where thinking about it doesn't matter.

For example. I killed a mob and I got 20 exp. at that same level I got 38 for reviving an npc, 165 for discovering a new area, and 1218 exp for completing a renown heart. Now those levels aren't going to always be the same, but that was at level 27. At level 20 I gots about 900 total experience for killing a giant and completing the dynamic event, also I got 36 exp for reviving another player. at abouts 10 levels the exp doubled, with is a much more horizontal curve then WoW or prolly TERA.
